Casual loading calculator
Enter the base hourly rate and the loading that applies, and see the loading in dollars and the loaded rate. You choose the percentage, because the award or agreement decides it.
A worked example
A base rate of $26.00 with a 25 percent loading entered. The loading is $6.50, so the loaded rate is $32.50 an hour, and 20 hours at that rate is $650.00.
How it is worked out
loading = base rate × loading percent ÷ 100
loaded rate = base rate + loading, and a total for the hours is hours × loaded rate, rounded to the cent.
What this tool cannot tell you
- Which loading applies, or whether one applies at all
- Whether penalties are calculated on the base rate or the loaded rate
- Minimum rates of pay under an award
Questions
Is casual loading always 25 percent?
It is 25 percent under many modern awards, but not in every case, and agreements and contracts can differ. Check what covers the person before relying on a figure.
Does the casual loading go on top of weekend rates?
That depends on the award or agreement. Some apply penalties to the base rate and some to the loaded rate. This tool only puts one loading on one rate.
Where do I find the base rate?
In the pay rates of the award or agreement, or in your payroll system. The Fair Work Ombudsman publishes a pay guide for each award.
