How to install Roster Flow on an iPhone or iPad

Roster Flow runs in Safari and can be added to the Home Screen as a web app, so it opens from its own icon like any other app. These are Apple’s steps for Safari, with the buttons to look for at each one.

On an iPad the order is a little different, and it is set out further down.

Before you start

  • Use Safari. Apple’s steps for adding a website to the Home Screen as a web app are written for Safari.
  • Accept the invite first. The email has a Set your password button, and invite your team explains what happens next.
  • Sign in, from the invite or the sign in page, before adding the icon.

Add Roster Flow to an iPhone Home Screen

  1. Open Roster Flow in Safari

Go to the Safari app and open Roster Flow. If the invite opened inside another app, open the sign in page in Safari and sign in there.

    Safari
  2. Tap the Page Menu button, then Share

If your Safari tabs are set to Bottom or Top, the Share button is shown straight away, so tap that instead.

  3. Tap Add to Home Screen

Scroll down the list of options. If Add to Home Screen is not there, scroll to the bottom, tap Edit Actions, then tap Add to Home Screen.

    Add to Home Screen
  4. Turn on Open as Web App, then tap Add

Apple describes this as using a website as if it’s an app. An icon for Roster Flow is added to the Home Screen.

    Open as Web AppthenAdd
  5. Open Roster Flow from the icon

Tap the icon and Roster Flow opens to Home, the first screen staff see when they sign in.

On an iPad

  1. Open Roster Flow in Safari and tap Share

Apple’s iPad steps start from the Share button while the page is open.

    Share
  2. Tap View More, then Add to Home Screen

Both are in the list that opens from Share.

    View MorethenAdd to Home Screen
  3. Turn on Open as Web App, then tap Add

The icon appears only on the iPad it was added on, so an iPhone needs its own.

    Open as Web AppthenAdd

After it is on the Home Screen

  • Roster Flow offers the same steps on Home, in a box headed Add Roster Flow to your phone. Got it hides the box.
  • A clock in or clock out made with no signal is kept on the phone and sent when the signal returns or Roster Flow is opened again. Breaks are not kept that way, so start and end a break with a signal.
  • Updates arrive on their own. When a message says a new version of Roster Flow is ready, press the button beside it to load it. There is nothing to update in an app store.
  • If location or the camera was refused by mistake, allow it again in the iPhone’s Settings, then open Roster Flow again.

Removing it

Touch and hold the Roster Flow icon on the Home Screen and choose to remove it, as Apple’s guide to removing apps from iPhone describes. The account, shifts and hours are not affected, and Roster Flow can be added again from Safari at any time.

If a step is not there

  • No Share button. Tap the Page Menu button first. Share is shown on its own only when Safari’s tabs are set to Bottom or Top.
  • No Add to Home Screen. Scroll to the bottom of the list, tap Edit Actions, then tap Add to Home Screen.
  • The page is open inside another app. Open the sign in page in Safari and start again from there.
  • The icon opens Roster Flow in Safari. Remove the icon and add it again with Open as Web App turned on.

For managers

Send each person their invite first, as invite your team sets out. Roster Flow on staff phones covers the first clock in, and anyone with an Android phone can follow the Android steps. The hours from each clock in come through for review and approval.
