|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 09:00 | 17:00 | 30 | 7.50 |

What it works out
The Hours column is a formula, not a number we typed. It takes the finish from the start, wraps correctly when the finish is after midnight, takes off the unpaid break in minutes, and gives decimal hours, which is what payroll usually wants. The week totals at the bottom, and there is a rate box if you want a rough figure to check against.
What is in the file
- Timesheet, blank, one week with a total and a signature line.
- Example, a filled in week including a Saturday night that finishes at half past two.
- How to use, covering breaks, overnight shifts and what the estimate at the bottom is not.
Keeping the records
Australian employers have to keep time and pay records. What applies to your business is a question for your accountant or bookkeeper, and the Fair Work Ombudsman publishes the current rules on record keeping and pay slips.
Questions
Does the timesheet template work out the hours?
Yes. The hours column is a formula rather than a number typed in. It takes the finish from the start, wraps correctly when the finish is after midnight, takes the unpaid break off in minutes, and gives decimal hours, which is what payroll usually wants.
How does the timesheet template handle a shift that finishes after midnight?
Write it as it happened, such as 22:00 to 02:30. The formula wraps past midnight on its own and counts four and a half hours rather than a negative number, which is what a plain subtraction would give.
Is the total on the timesheet template a payslip?
No. The estimate is hours multiplied by a rate you type in. It knows nothing about award rates, penalties, loadings, allowances, overtime, superannuation or tax, and it is a rough check rather than a pay calculation.
How long do Australian employers have to keep timesheets?
Time and wages records are kept for seven years under the Fair Work Act, legibly and in English. What exactly has to be recorded depends on the employee, so read the record keeping page and the Fair Work Regulations rather than relying on a template alone.
