Staff induction checklist template
An induction that happens between serves is an induction nobody remembers. This is the same material in an order somebody can actually work through, with a name against each item and a line to sign.

| Emergency procedures | Exits, the assembly point, the fire extinguisher and the first aid kit | Manager | First 30 minutes | Yes |
| Incident and hazard reporting | What to report, who to, and where the form is | Manager | First 30 minutes | Yes |

| Clocking on and off | How to start and finish a shift, and what to do if you forget | Supervisor | First hour | Yes |

What is in the file
- Template, blank, with 20 rows under item, what it covers, who runs it and the rest.
- Example, the same sheet filled in for Harbourside Coffee.
- How to use, with the steps and the mistakes below.
How to fill it in
- Put the safety items first and do them before the person starts work, not at the end of the day.
- Name a person against each item rather than leaving it to whoever is free.
- Spread it across two days where the first day is busy, and say on the sheet which items can wait.
- Both sign it at the end, and keep it with the employee’s records.
Common mistakes
- An induction run entirely on the first morning of a Saturday
- Safety items left until last, after the person has already worked a shift
- A checklist filled in afterwards from memory, which is a record of nothing

When a spreadsheet stops being enough
Roster Flow is the part a new starter sets up on day one: the app on their phone, their availability by the hour, and the first roster they will be in.
Questions
What is on the staff induction checklist template?
5 columns: item, what it covers, who runs it, when, and 1 more. The blank sheet gives you 20 rows, and the example is the same grid filled in for Harbourside Coffee: the first day, in order: safety, the site, the systems and the people.
Does the staff induction checklist template calculate anything?
No. Its 5 columns are there to fill in, by hand or on screen, and none of them is a formula. It is a planning sheet for the first day, in order: safety, the site, the systems and the people
Can I use the staff induction checklist template in Google Sheets?
Yes. Open staff-induction-checklist.xlsx from Google Drive, or use File, then Import, then Upload with staff-induction-checklist.csv. The grid and its example come across either way.
Is the wording in the staff induction checklist template ready to use as it is?
The staff induction checklist template is a starting point for Harbourside Coffee or any business like it, to adapt rather than sign. The wording was checked against the official sources on 21 October 2026, it is not legal advice, and it has not been through a workplace relations professional.
