Decimal hours converter
Payroll usually wants hours as a decimal, and a timesheet usually has them as hours and minutes. Convert either way here, and use the table below for any minute of the hour.
A worked example
38:20 is 38 hours and 20 minutes: 20 ÷ 60 is 0.33, so it is 38.33 hours. And 7.3 hours is not 7 hours 30 minutes: 0.3 × 60 is 18, so it is 7:18.

Questions
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 45 minutes is 45 divided by 60, which is 0.75, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.
Why is 7.3 hours not 7 hours 30 minutes?
Because the decimal is a fraction of an hour, not a count of minutes. 7.3 hours is 7 hours 18 minutes. Half an hour is 0.5.
How many decimal places does payroll use?
Two is common, and it is what this converter shows. Check what your payroll system expects, because rounding a week to one place can move it by several minutes.
