For a site that runs day and night: four crews, each working two day shifts and two night shifts, then four days off. The eight day cycle is laid out once, so every day has one crew on days and one on nights.

How to fill it in
- Put each person on the row for their crew. Write D for a day shift and N for a night shift, and leave days off empty.
- Lay the cycle out once: two days, two nights and four days off, with each crew starting two days after the one before.
- Check every day has the people you need on days and on nights before you copy the cycle forward.
- Check the award or agreement allows twelve hour shifts, and the change from nights back to days.
Common mistakes
- A crew rostered on a day shift the morning after its last night
- Two crews on nights and nobody on days after a swap
- Forgetting that a night shift finishes on the next calendar day, for pay and for public holidays
