Free retail roster template

Every trading day needs somebody to open and somebody to close, and a Saturday needs more hands than a Tuesday. The example is a small bookshop with casuals on the late night and the weekend.

What is in the file

  • Template, blank, with 12 rows under name, role, mon and the rest.
  • Example, the same sheet filled in for Harbour Street Books.
  • How to use, with the steps and the mistakes below.

How to fill it in

  1. Mark who opens and who closes each day, in their role or beside the shift.
  2. Cover the late night and the Saturday peak before filling the ordinary weekdays.
  3. Put casuals where the extra hands are needed rather than into a quiet morning.
  4. Check the public holidays for your state: trading hours and who is available often change on them.

Common mistakes

  • A close left to one person when your own policy says two
  • Late night trading without enough cover after work hours finish
  • A two hour casual shift rostered without checking the minimum engagement in the award

When a spreadsheet stops being enough

Roster Flow shows each day’s cover as you build, adds the public holidays for your state, and lets staff swap a Saturday with a manager’s approval.

Questions

What is on the retail roster template?

10 columns: name, role, mon, tue, and 6 more. The blank sheet gives you 12 rows, and the example is the same grid filled in for Harbour Street Books: openers, closers, a late night and weekend cover.

Does the retail roster template add anything up for you?

Yes: a count of the filled cells across each row. They are live formulas in the Excel file, so they follow whatever you type into the 10 columns.

Can I use the retail roster template in Google Sheets?

Yes. Open retail-roster.xlsx from Google Drive, or use File, then Import, then Upload with retail-roster.csv. The grid and its example come across either way.

Do I need an account to download the retail roster template?

No. retail-roster.xlsx, retail-roster.csv and retail-roster.pdf are plain links. There is no sign up, no email address asked for, and nothing to install.
